Thursday 2 July

I was so relieved it was cooler this morning as we’d invited friends from Solihull for lunch and although we were having salad I’d planned to bake a quiche and some bread rolls. I couldn’t face making them yesterday when it was so hot.

Annis & Dennis arrived at noon and we had a lovely relaxing afternoon of chat. They brought me a beautiful indoor rose bush that has pride of place on the bookcase. We stayed in doors as it kept trying to rain all afternoon and the sun only came out after they’d gone.

This evening we went to Longfellows for dinner.   The food was delicious and we wished we’d visited here on Tuesday night rather than The Boat Inn. Our Good Samaritan who took us to the museum yesterday is the proprietor and chef at Longfellows and we wished to repay his generosity by patronising his restaurant.

It was rather extravagant to dine out twice in a week!
