Muckley kept us company as far as Burscough where we moored up and we went off to explore the area.   Formerly, a canal village and a staging post on the one-time Wigan-Liverpool ‘packet boat’ run where there was stabling for the horses and also housing for many of the boatmen too.   Now it is has two train stations and a main road running right through it but it is a good place to stock up with provisions as there is a large Tesco just north of the canal.   The Wharf at Bridge 32A has been refurbished and offers bikes for hire, an artisan baker, an ice-cream shop, a wool shop, art gallery and an arts centre. It was a very friendly village and quite picturesque.
