Sunday 24 August

We left Tixall wide early and reached Great Heywood soon after where we turned north up the Trent & Mersey. Our progress to Stone was slow due to the number of boats moored canalside which we have to pass at tickover speed, and also having to queue for locks.

We filled up with water again in Stone before continuing on towards Stoke on Trent. We are keen to make as much progress as possible while the weather and daylight lasts.

We managed 15 miles, 13 locks today before rain stopped play and we moored up in Trentham for the night, just north of the Wedgewood Factory.

We’ve seen a number of kingfishers today but they enjoy taunting us and fly off just as we’re lining up a decent photograph.  Storm wins the prize for the clearest photograph today as his camera has a better zoom lens than mine.SONY DSC
