This green woodpecker alerted us to his perch with his shrill call rather than with his pecking!

The Leicestershire countryside is so picturesque we’re continuing towards Leicester for a couple of days before retracing our steps.

We doubled up through the wide five locks with a fellow architect who recommended that we moor up in open countryside between Newton Harcourt and Wistow where the view across the parkland is beautiful. He also suggested we walk across the fields to the Wistow Model Village and have an ice-cream if nothing else.

We can report that the ice-creams alone are worth the walk and the Mediterranean themed farmshop produces a devine aroma with lots of goodies to tempt you.

This is the view from the boat across the parkland.

7 miles, 1 tunnel, 5 locks.
