Wednesday 2 April

Up early and away down the flight by 8.20 am.   21 locks completed in 2hrs 50 minutes with the help of the volunteer lock keepers who now assist boaters.   (The volunteers have only been around to help  in the last three years since the creation of the Canal River Trust).

We moored up opposite the Cape of Good Hope (a lovely canalside pub which is better approached from the canal than the road) and after a healthy salad lunch on board we walked into Warwick for an explore.

The highlight of the explore was an unplanned visit to Mill Gardens beside the Castle.   This is a private garden lovingly tended by a husband and wife team who inherited the house 13 years ago from her father, Arthur Measures.   From the garden you get fantastic views of the river, the castle and the parkland beyond while enjoying an amazing colourful array of flowers and shrubs.     The owner was very keen to point out which plants he favoured and which had the best aromas.
